The values we live by today are inspired by the past.

In the Fifties, Lumen was the first school to open in the Valle del Biois, with accommodation for its boarders next door. It then became a catering college, which is now located close by and with which we enjoy a good relationship.

Our hotel is therefore an important part of the community in Falcade and the whole valley. The recent restoration project paid tribute to the building’s educational past and there are light-hearted references to its history in the rooms. We have gone from the theory of hospitality to the practice and we believe that the best kind of hospitality is that which anticipates the needs of its guests instead of satisfying them.

Accessibility is a true and distinctive feature of Lumen and its vision: accessibility is the basic criterion for which the renovation of the structure has been adopted.

All indoor and outdoor common areas have been realized without physical obstacles and have wide spaces, including the elevator that serves the floors and access to the garden. As many as 5 rooms are specially equipped for the needs of guests with disabilities and there are additional accessible toilets also equipped with a bathtub that can be opened. A hoist is available on request.

But pshysical ones are not the only barriers that interest us to remove. This attention is just one of the acts in which we translate our desire to make our magnificent Dolomites accessible to our guests. This category includes the eBike rental services of the structure for instance, or the shuttle service to and from the ski slopes. Even the attention to have guaranteed the view of the mountains from every single room will help the visitor to feel included in this unique environment.

Nature reigns supreme in the Valle del Biois, but it is also interesting to observe how man’s presence has not had a negative effect on the surroundings.

Some of the choices we have made at Lumen are in line with the current principles of environmental sustainability, to reduce our footprint. We have used local materials including larch wood and red stone from Castellavazzo. The whole building is in energy efficiency class A+; the air treatment system installed in each room prevents heat from escaping because guests need to open the windows; hot water is generated by solar panels. Lastly, the geothermal underfloor heating system means we take heat from the ground free of charge in the winter and give it back in the summer.

We are a group of people who love welcoming friends into their homes and we are lucky to have found jobs doing just that. Our staff aim to be friendly and accommodating at all times.
Our relationship with our guests is what makes our job worthwhile and since Lumen is a relatively small hotel, we are able to connect with our guests better than in a larger hotel. From the meals to our clean rooms, we aim to provide a top-quality service, so you can enjoy a worry-free holiday in Falcade and its mountains.

Lumen lies in a quiet spot, far from traffic. The centre of Falcade is only a 15-minute walk away. It stands on the Falcade plain, a vast grassy clearing where you can enjoy quiet walks and let your children play happily. In the winter it is used for cross-country skiing and ice skating. Falcade also offers a number of cultural attractions, like the Murer Museum, dedicated to the famous local sculptor Augusto Murer, and numerous small villages whose typical architecture has been conserved.
Falcade is surrounded by stunningly beautiful Dolomite peaks. To the south and west the Pale di San Martino dominate, with Mulaz (2906 m) and Focobon (3054 m). To the north the Cime d’Auta separate Falcade from the Marmolada and its glacier; to the east, the valley lies in the shadow of the spectacular north-western face of Civetta (3220 m).
The Biois valley offers endless opportunities for visitors who love hiking, via ferrata, road cycling and mountain biking, sport and rock climbing and trail running. For winter sports lovers, the Falcade - San Pellegrino Pass ski area has 60 km of downhill slopes, 37 km of circular cross-country skiing trails, a freeride route and lots of itineraries for ski mountaineering.
Just a couple of minutes from Falcade is Canale d'Agordo, the birthplace of Pope John Paul I, with a museum dedicated to his life which recently opened. At the top of the Marmolada, accessed by cable car, is the spectacular Great War Museum which, lying at 3000 metres, is the highest museum in Europe. Close by is also Serrai di Sottoguda which is well worth a visit. This ancient road runs through a sheer canyon which has been hewn out of the rock by the Pettorina stream.
